You read one of four "choice books" for summer reading: 1984, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, Dash & Lily's Book of Dares and The Secret Life of Bees.  Question: In 4-6 sentences, would you recommend your "choice book" to a friend?  Why or why not?  Try not to just say "It was good" or "It was bad"; elaborate on your response.  What was it about the book's characters, story, themes, etc. that you liked or disliked?

--don't forget to tell us the title of your "choice book"
--BE HONEST!  You don't need to say you liked your book if you hated it...

Over the summer, I read the book Dash and Lily's Book of Dares. I would not recommend this book to a friend for many reasons. First of all, I didn't think it was well written. I thought the plot line was weak and I wasn't engaged in the story line at all. Also, I didn't like the characters. I thought they were unrealistic and corny, but thats just my opinion. Overall, I would not recommend Dash and Lily's Book of Dares to a friend.

This summer I enjoyed reading 1984, by George Orwell. The novel was very slow going in part one, where the author worked on introducing the characters. As the book progressed more action occurred and it turned into an easy read. I would recommend this novel to a friend because even though it was written in a time when 1984 was in the future, it shows how our government controls our lives in every aspect. I found the main message of the book the most intriguing. If my friend asked me, "Was 1984 a delightful read?" I would answer with, "Yes, you should read it!"

This summer, I read the The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, by Mark Haddon. I would recommend this book to a friend because of it's mystery and suspense. This book has the reader always trying to figure out the mystery. It's like a puzzle and I found it a little difficult to put the book down once I started. Although, it's a little difficult to get through the first few chapters because we don't exactly see where the storyline is going. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and thought it was very action packed and adventurous.

Over the summer, I read George Orwell's "1984". I personally thought this book was very hard to understand, and when you were able to comprehend it, it was very sad and strange. I also think that this book is outdated and should not be on the summer reading list. I would not recommend this book to my peers. That is what I thought of the book "1984".

This summer I read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. I would definetely reccomend this book to a friend. Mark Haddon's writing captures the essscence the autistic boy in the novel. This book is eye opening and gave me a much deeper understand what people with autism and their caretakers have to go through everyday. THis is a quick read but still a wonderful book.

Over he past summer, I chose to read the novel, "Dash and Lily's Book of Dare," by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. I would not recommend this book to a friend or peer for a few reasons. First, the story was not interesting at all, the majority of the book consists of two teenagers leaving notes for each other across New York City. Second, the book was not well written at all, it felt like someone my age could have been the author. Finally, I thought that the whole idea behind the book was very stupid and I did not enjoy it. That is why I would not recommend the book, "Dash and Lily's Book of Dares," to a friend.

Over the summer, I read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. I thought it was good book and would recomend it to a friend because it had many surprises that made the story more exciting. The story was pretty exciting because the main character, Christopher, had autism which made his decision making different then other people. For example, if Christopher didn't know somebody well enough even though they were his neighbor, he would not go in there house. This book by Mark Haddon is an easy read and I would recomend this to a friend.

These are some of the reasons I really enjoyed the book and I would recommend it to a friend.

The book that I read over the summer was 1984, and I would definitely recommend it to a friend. It is well-crafted and has a believable futuristic setting- which is what makes it so ominous. It reminds you that any point during the near future could turn out something like the world of 1984. It tells the story of a political rebel in a hauntingly poignant manner, and that is why I believe 1984 to be a fantastic book.

I had the pleasure of reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time over the summer. It was a very interesting and suspenseful novel. I had never read a book written from an autistic teen’s point of view, and I found it fascinating. On top of the different perspective, there was a mystery involved as well. This kept the book moving and was a source of suspense. I would definitely recommend The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time to a friend.

I recently finished The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, by Mark Haddon. For this review, I'd say that besides a few setbacks, it turns out to be a good story that I recommend picking up for light reading. The story was good, as it followed 15 year old Christopher Boone who learns about human interaction as he finds the truth about his mother. However, Christopher likes to go on tangents... a lot. This was a minor setback for this reader, but those who don't mind VERY detailed descriptions should find nothing wrong with this book. In conclusion, this novel's strengths dwarf its weaknesses making it an enjoyable read.

Over the summer, I chose to read "The Secret Life Of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd. The novel is set in the 1920s, young fourteen year old Lily who runs away from her father with her nanny, Rosaleen, to Tiburon, South Carolina. They stay with three African American beekeepers. Lily understands what true care and love is. I would recommend this book to anyone.

For my choice book I read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon. I would absolutely recommend this book to a friend because of its exciting, fast paced plot, and many twists and turns. The action is always suspensful and catches the reader off-gaurd. The main character, Christopher, really takes the reader inside his mind and shows how an autistic kid thinks. I would recommend this book in a heartbeat to any of my friends.

Over the summer I read "Dash and Lily's Book of Dares" by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan. I thought the book was pretty good; it wasn't one of my favorites but it wasn't bad. This book took place in New York City and is a love story between the two main characters, Dash and Lily. Each chapter alternates from Dash's point of view to Lily's and I thought that was an interesting way of writing the book; it gave you a better understanding of what each character was thinking. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading romance novels, but not to someone who likes adventure books.

This summer, I read the book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, and I would definitely recommend this to a friend. However, I would only recommend it to a friend who likes an easy read, because it isn't very challenging. I enjoyed reading The Curious Incident because it was enthralling, and kept me reading because of the mystery and suspense involved in the story. Also, since it was told from the point of view of a special needs kid who is very truthful with everything, nothing was ever exaggerated or under-exaggerated. His decisions were perhaps different from the decisions that people without special needs would make, which made the book even more interesting. This really made me realize how special needs kids might think, and what they might go through on a daily basis. Therefore, I would recommend this book to a friend who enjoys an easy read.

The writing wasn't great but in my opinion the story was cute enough to cath my interest. This summer, I took pleasure in reading the novel, "Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd. I would most definitely recommend this novel to a friend, due to its moving story, that illustrates the irrationality of racism through a teenagers eyes, in the South, of 1964. Very well written, I greatly enjoyed following Lily's adventure, where she soon discovers what she always dreamed of, a home full of care, love, and plenty of respect. I feel that any reader would entirely benefit from reading this novel, for it contains many great aspects of everyday life and a very interesting storyline. Generally, I am extremely glad I read "Secret Life of Bees."

Over the summer I chose to read The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk KIdd for my choice book. I would definately recommend this book to anyone because it is so capttivating you just cant put it down. It also is an easy read book. It displays the theme of racism in the South, as a young girl and her black friend/housekeeper run away abusive father and the hatred of white men, while finding tracks of her dead mom. I liked the way the characters were portrayed in this novel. If your ever in the mood for a great read,The Secret Life of Bees is an amazing book.

Over the summer I chose to read 1984 by George Orwell. I would recommend this book to a friend because of its unique plot and interesting ideas concerning the future, human nature, and political power. This book follows Winston Smith; a man who lives in a society where the government controls everything that everyone does and monitors their every moves. 1984 was a forlorn yet captivating read that should be touted.
